Jasmine's Remarkable Year - 2024
Jasmine's Remarkable Year - 2024
It’s been a huge year for Club member and S14 swimmer Jasmine, who has battled heart surgery, recovery, at least weekly hospital visits and also managed to train as a swimming Official!  She won @swimenglandnorthwest North West Technical Official of the Year and went on to win the Swim England Bronze Award for overall Technical Official of the Year 🫶🫶

We were lucky to have everyone on poolside last night who has contributed to Jas’s journey this year - not least Jas’s mum Liz who has guided her through this storm so well 💙💛Liz has sent us a special message of thanks 🙏🏼
“Just a thank you really from me and Jas to you 3:
Helen for her mentoring, patience and being able to adapt the learning for Jasmine eg doing videos to test ability to spot DQ’s!
Melisa for all her time supporting Jasmine both poolside at training and competitions.
And of course to YOU (Kate) for all your support and belief in Jasmine to get her back in the pool and swimming again 💕🥰
You are ALL fab people and without you Jasmine wouldn’t be able to access and achieve the things that she does in relation to all things swimming - it takes a TEAM x”
💙💛💙💛💙💛
Swimming can be so transformational in many ways!  Who knows what Jasmine will achieve in 2025 🙌
Arena League Final Round - December 2024
Arena League Final Round - December 2024

A huge well done to our Arena Team who swam amazingly last night in the B Final at Macclesfield!

We totally smashed what would always have been a difficult gala - with illness & injury meaning we had a flurry of last minute team changes who totally stepped up & swam their hardest.   We came a creditable 7th place, with a few extra points lost along the way which was unfortunate, but that’s swimming! 🫶

We had amazing team spirit & the team fought for their places in some tight finishes with wins for Davey in 100 Fly, Tom in 100 Free (sub 60 club) & Mostafa in 100 Fly.  There were breakthrough PBs for Rosie in 100 Breast, Ella in 100 Breast, Luca in 100 Fly, James in 100 Back & Jessica in 50 Back with Sophia, Ethan, Emily & Mollie posting some rapid relay times with all the chasing!!  We need a special shout out to our youngest team member, Adam, who filled in at the last moment & absolutely wowed us all with his races 🙌

We said a sad good bye to two of our most special & longest standing members who have decided to hang up their goggles 🫶😢 . Club Captain Michael Wu, who has swum at every level at the Club and has been a fantastic role model and team mate; his dedication to perfecting the pacing of a 200 Free will be a key legacy for me.  And Frankie, a very popular team member and an absolute lynch pin in the team who always delivers the goods, technically great & super fast; Frankie has swum some of the most impressive 50 Fly races I’ve had the pleasure of watching. Thanks to both of you for your commitment and for bringing so much to the Club over the years. We will really really miss you 😢

Thank you to Jennie M for organising all the galas behind the scenes, being in charge of printing & sorting out coach travel so that everyone could travel as a team, & for team managing every round.  Thank you to Ian for being a fantastic Team Manager, motivating the swimmers & doing a fantastic job of “herding cats” to races & around the venue 🫶 Thank you to Tess, Felicity & James who were our excellent Officials, to Helen, Jo & Jennie B for volunteering to do the door & to Coach Leah for bringing the best sparkly Xmas hats.🎅

Warrington/Preston/Trafford Weekend Roundup
Warrington/Preston/Trafford Weekend Roundup

What an incredible weekend!  With 7 swimmers at Percy Mason, 25 at the Preston Xmas Cracker and 23 at the Trafford Xmas Cracker almost half the Club were competing!  We had 2 first time county qualifiers in Lilia and Xander 🩵💛 which is fantastic to see.  Well done you two!

At Preston we had a huge PB rate with everyone swimming superbly and lots of county times.  Ducks went to Imogen for 200 Fly, Hannah B for 200 Breast, Xander for 50 Back, Jessica S(o) for 50 Back, and Bea for 100 Free 🦆🦆

At Trafford there were some fantastic swims also with ducks going to Sophia and Lilia for fantastic effort in 100m fc both with a 6 or 7 second PB, Maisy for a great race and 18 second PB in 200m fc, Issy for great swim in 50m fc with 9 second PB 🩵💛  Ducks are also headed to Alex RT and Seraphina for great swimming.

Well done everyone, great swimming for a cold and rainy weekend 💪 lots to build on!

Without our Club helpers, Coaches and Officials these meets would not be able to happen and this weekend we were spread thinly!  Thanks to TMs Ian, Nick, Felicity, Jennie, Sarah, Catherine, Emma & Gary and to Coaches Kristina, Jade & Andy (and I’ll give myself a mention too, Kate), plus volunteers at Trafford (Maria, Mandy, Jane, Steven and Max) plus all the Officials - I don’t get a list of these but I know Felicity was at Percy Mason, Jacqui and Felicity were at Trafford and Lindsay, James, Louisa and Nishma were at Preston (if I missed anyone please don’t be offended).

Preston Christmas Cracker - November 2024
Preston Christmas Cracker - November 2024
We had a big gang from our Performance squads racing at Darwen pool, in the Preston Xmas Cracker 🎄🎄
Day 1 was a proper cracker with some big PBs across the board, County times gained, and others happily hitting “on PB” targets.  The process was great with turns and underwaters more precise than ever: Looking back to the 2023 entries our swimmers have been on a huge improvement curve!
Well done everyone!
Thanks to the volunteers and officials who make the meet happen; and to Coach Kristina and team managers Emma and Catherine 🩵💛

Jasmine Officiates at the British Blind Championships - November 2024
Jasmine Officiates at the British Blind Championships - November 2024
Jasmine has been busy recently despite a difficult week health wise after her heart surgery.

She was officiating at the British Blind Championships where she was lucky to meet up with the inspirational twins Eliza and Scarlett Humphrey who competed in the Paris Paralympic Games this year.

Jasmine has been back in the pool herself this week and is working hard on her rehab.  We were excited to be able to build up to some 50s last night without too much discomfort, and we definitely had a few laughs on the poolside too which made the time pass really quickly!

Jasmine is going a great job getting back to fitness, well done Jas, keep up the great work 🫶

We are home!  And that’s a wrap for Swim Camp 2024!

What a truly fantastic camp it was, on never to be forgotten... subways to Barcelona, hostels, rain, flash-floods, fire alarms - you name it, we did  it!  But the camp was a roaring success and we can't wait to do it again next year.  Well done ASC, you are amazing.

Thanks to all the swimmers for being amazing, and well done for all the hard graft 🩵💛🩵💛

A big thanks to Kristina, Stewart and Jade for being brilliant Team Managers and Coaches and for giving up a week of their lives for the swimmers.  Your hard work means a lot 🩵💛🩵💛 … there was never a quiet moment 🥰

Swim England Masters National Championships - October 2024
Swim England Masters National Championships - October 2024
Wow!  What a super weekend at Ponds Forge at the Swim England Masters National Championships.  Emily kicked off the weekend with a win 🥇in the 1500 Free, followed by 7th in the 100 Free and so close to hitting sub 60 secs!  Saturday saw a big PB for Emily in the 50 Free and a fantastic 4th in the 200 Free!

"Super Sunday" brought two more gold medals 🥇🥇  It was GOLD 🥇 for Emily in the morning in the 400 IM in a truly outstanding PB, when Emily wants to focus on an event she really does and this was a huge improvement on previous times and process! Absolutely awesome Emily 💙💛💙💛   In theafternoon, Ashley was in action in the 50 Back and he smashed out another GOLD 🥇 showing that his training and commitment are working really well!  We can’t wait to see how much faster Ashley gets as the season progresses with a bit more race practice under his belt!  Well done Ashley, brilliant swim! 💙💛💙💛

It’s a pleasure to see these two swimmers still loving to swim into their university years and still making incredible progress 💪🏼 They are definitely inspiring 🫶
2025 Club Captains Hannah and Michael - October 2024
2025 Club Captains Hannah and Michael - October 2024

We are delighted to reveal our 2025 season Club Captains, Hannah B and Michael W.  Hannah and Michael take on the role from Wendy and Isabelle who were both wonderful role models and inspiring team captains.
Michael W is one the original members of the squad and he has represented ASC at every level from the Trafford Borough Diddy galas at age 9, through to winning multiple medals for ASC at County and Regional level and represented the club at English Nationals.  He’s a great trainer with a fantastic work ethic and has a great head for numbers meaning he can nail his pacing like a pro.  We think Michael will be a fantastic Club Captain as he’s experienced the Club at every level. 💙
Hannah B is a popular choice for captain; a swimmer who fully embraces the Swimmer ABCs and role models top training and racing behaviours 100% of the time.  Hannah has grown in confidence over the last few years, specialising in Backstroke, Fly and a bit of IM where she has been successful at a County and Regional level and she represented ASC at Irish Nationals last year too!  A great team player, Hannah ticks all the skills required by a Club Captain. 💛
Look out for Hannah and Michael at training and at galas, I’m sure they will be happy to say hello!
Pointscore 3 - October 2024
Pointscore 3 - October 2024
Great Pointscore competition tonight with 101 of our amazing swimmers racing as hard as they could!
There were some great swims and some excellent cheering and there were also some good skills although I was a bit disappointed by the lack of cross over turns 👀👀 due to “finishing on the wrong arm” 🙄😜
The canon was epic as usual! 💙💛💙💛
Well done to Yaseen for managing to pick himself in the lucky dip draw and to Corey for managing to pick his own raffle ticket to win the raffle. These skills are crucial to survival in life 🤣
Thanks as ever to Helen for organising and running it so efficiently, and to the Officials, Team Managers, Team Captains and Coaches for all of their help.

Arena League Round 1 - October 2024
We are so proud of the team tonight!  In our most challenging draw ever our Alty swimmers swam with big hearts and lots of soul and didn’t get deterred by the strength of the other teams.  We chipped away at it, one race at a time and were absolutely delighted to move in to 7th from 8th right at the last moment.
Our Alty swimmers sure know how to race like a team!  Well done gang!  Here’s to the next one 💪🏼💪🏼💙💛

NW Technical Official of the Year Award - Jasmine Stagg
NW Technical Official of the Year Award - Jasmine Stagg
She did it!! 💙💛💙💛
Jasmine is NW Technical Official of the Year 🫶🎉🥳
Well done to Jasmine who always fights the odds to do something incredible 💕
Jasmine has battled open heart surgery this year, a huge procedure which has been life changing. Swimming has always been central to Jasmine’s health and well being, and as a successful S14 swimmer being limited in her swimming has been incredibly hard.
Never deterred, Jasmine and her mum Liz found another way to keep Jasmine engaged with the sport she so loves.
Becoming a technical Official is a tough process at the best of times, but Jasmine never gave up and proved that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.  With the help of our wonderful senior Official Helen Inns, Jasmine spent hours and hours in training sessions learning the rules of an Official and how to apply them.  She volunteered at copious galas to get signed off, with her support team never too far away.
Well done Jasmine, this is a special victory for you, you have given back to the sport that you love during a particularly tough year for you personally.
Well done from everyone at Altrincham SC, you are awesome…. Now the next stage is to ease you back into the water too 💙💛💙💛💙💛

Swim England Talent Pathway and Team Selections - September 2024

💙💛A massive well done to Tom R who has been selected for the North West Regional Development Programme and the North West Regional Distance Programme 🙌

💙💛Associate Member Luca W has also been selected for the Regional Distance Programme which is great to see after his stand out 1500 Free at Regionals this year.

💙💛Coach Kate has also been selected as Head Coach for the North West Regional Development Programme and as a Skills Coach on the Swim England National Age Group Development Programme.

💙💛Simon H and Tom R have been selected to swim for Cheshire in the prestigious Inter County Championships at Ponds Forge in October. This is probably the most fun and most noisy competition in the calendar so it’s a wonderful experience to be a part of! Cheshire were promoted to Division 1 last year so there is everything to swim for!  Altrincham alumni Michael G has also been selected to swim so there will be a lot of ASC blood represented 💙💛
Well done everyone, what a great start to the season!

Joseph's No Limits Challenge - September 2024
Joseph's No Limits Challenge - September 2024
💙10 x 10km 💛 5 days 💙 10 countries 💛 Blood, sweat and tears 💙 The best family 💛Raising £350k for a new disability sports, training and employment programme!💙 Joseph has done some amazing things in his life (e.g. he was crowned National Champion back in November at the @downsyndromeswimminggb National Championships) but this has got to be the most impressive so far!

Joseph’s dad explained that Joseph’s Challenge has been called “No Limits” because the idea behind it is that if you remove any preconceived limits or labels you can explore someone’s full potential.  Joseph has taught all of us this over the years in many ways becoming a national swimming champion and competing in many sports in spite of not being able to walk until he was nearly three or swim until he was ten.  Rather than choose a swimming challenge - the family, with Joseph’s agreement, decided to pick a sport he really doesn’t love and 330km of training later he is ready to go.

It was wonderful to see Joseph and his team finish their epic challenge at the @altrincham10k - he finished his last 10k in the second fastest time of all the 10ks which is pretty impressive stuff! Well done Joseph and team from all at Altrincham Swimming Club, you have absolutely smashed this one! Rest up, you must be exhausted! But we do need you back in the pool soon! 🌊🌊

Swim England National Summer Meet - July 2024
Swim England National Summer Meet - July 2024
We kicked off the Nationals pool campaign with Emily’s 1500 Free!  Just shy of PB pace but Emily fought really hard and finished with a smile to mark a fantastic experience and achievement!  We are super super proud of you Emily, you have inspired so many other swimmers today 💙

Tom gave incredible performances throughout; 29 SECOND PB in the 1500 Free for 4th place, including a 400 and and 800 PB!  5 Seconds off his PB for 6th in the 13 years 400 Free final; and another PB from Tom in the 100 Free for 11th.  In the 13 years 800 Free, Tom won a 🥉medal; he held his pacing to perfection … and came home in an epic 1.06 for his last split for a 26 second PB!  Another 🥉 medal for Tom in the 100 Back, bettering his PB from the heats to sneak under 1:05.  A final great morning of racing for Tom, in the 200 Back and 200 Free. He will have raced 7k this week by the end of the evening (excluding warm up and swim down).  Great swimming Tom, ASC is very proud of you 💙💛

A fantastic end to the swimming year for Ashley, who has put swimming on a back burner whilst he’s been at uni but still managed to train enough to get to Nationals and a National final! Ashley was 7th in the 50 back final with a fantastic swim with a great underwater performance phase and strong rhythm 💙💛  Well done Ash, looking forward to your next steps!

In summary, our swimmers have absolutely excelled themselves 💙💛
Emily had a great swim in the 1500 to take 20th, and she enjoyed every moment of her first National experience. 👑
Ashley had a fantastic swim in the 50 Back to come 7th in the final 💪🏼

What an incredible way to kick off a Nationals campaign!  Huge well done to the awesome Tom R who is National Open Water Champion for the 3k in the 13 years age group.

This was no ordinary swim … at one point he was in 4th, until his choice of racing line and super sighting brought him back into the mix.  He held his nerve and got himself into second and by 2.5k we suddenly realised he was moving towards first place.  In another display of superb open water racing skills Tom chose the best racing line into the finish and hit the gantry 9 seconds ahead of his competitor, who had put in a fantastic effort too.  Massive well done to the other medal winners, it was a great race!
Cheshire County Masters Record - July 2024
Cheshire County Masters Record - July 2024
We have just found out that the amazing Emily managed to get a Cheshire Counties Masters Record for the 400 Freestyle on 13 July at Stockport.  This was mid heavy training and she smashed it ❤️❤️
Well done Emily, this is truly outstanding 🙌🙌
Richmond Dales Summer Madness Meet - July 2024
Richmond Dales Summer Madness Meet - July 2024

We had the best day in Leeds at the Richmond Dales Summer Madness Meet.

We kicked off the sessions with some fantastic relays, which were loads of fun and the teams swam fantastically with some PBs to warm us up!

Lily won the first duck of the day for amazing cheering, closely followed by Beatrice!  Jessica's mum won the best parent supporter duck too!

Daisy, Hannah and Imogen won ducks for best fancy dress (Spiderman goggles that looked like they had never been designed to get wet!) and Corey and Ian won ducks for fantastic breaststroke swimming over the last 2 weekends.  Xander collected his 400 free Warrington Meet duck and Mikaela knocked a massive 14 second off her 200IM for a duck award.  Mahathi smashed out the most incredible 50 breast for her first duck of the season!  Sophia H was awarded a duck for her 200IM and also commitment to finding the ducks' sunglasses!

The team spirit was high and the swimmers were an absolute delight with lots of LOLs to mark what was for all of them the last meet of the season.  A big thank you to Kristina and Ian who were fantastic Team Managers and to Nishma, James and Jacqui for being excellent Officials.

The medal tally was insane with 48 medals in one day with Daisy, Hannah and Eva and Rosie getting some clean sweeps in the 15 and overs.

Amazing work team💙💛

Open Water Regional Event - June 2024

We had a fantastic afternoon at the Swim England North West & North East Open Water Regionals.  A big well done to Sam, Tom and Emily for representing the Club in this prestigious event.

Huge well done to Sam in the 14 years 3k - 3rd in Cheshire.

Fantastic swim from Tom in the 13 years 2k, who won NW Regional Gold and Cheshire Gold, plus qualified for Nationals.

Awesome swim from Emily in the 19+ 5k, who won NW Regional Bronze and Cheshire Gold, plus qualified for Nationals.  Emily always give us a little bit extra and today she almost literally went the extra mile by completing one extra lap after she had finished!  Clearly she was enjoying the experience too much!

Well done everyone; what a great day.

Swimmer of the Month - April 2024
Swimmer of the Month - April 2024

Emily I in National, for a great regional campaign and an English National qualification in the 1500 free.

Emily is a true role model who is racing faster and faster each year improving both her skills, and her mindset.  At age 19 Emily is the epitome of the value of swimming and keeping your focus throughout the difficult mid teenage years with plateaus, exams and peer pressure. Well done Emily, we are so proud of what you achieve.

This month’s nominations were:
Tom R, National - for winning 9 regional medals and gaining 8 English Nationals times. However, his success means more than this, he’s an incredibly hard worker, takes on board feedback, races with maturity and always cheers on his team mates.

Luca W – Regional - for 3 regional bronze medals and a near miss 4th! He raced with determination and resilience.

Ashley D – National - for Regional medals and English National qualification in 50 back. After training at the Loughborough Performance Squad Ash has been training on his own and with ASC this year, which make his achievement all the more impressive. Still got it Ash!

Wendy D and Simon H, National for getting so close to Nationals getting knocked out of the window on the last day 😢

Michael G, National for some really resilient Regional swims and missing the National window by a tiny margin.

Manchester/Stockport Last Chance National Qualifier Meet - May 2024
Manchester/Stockport Last Chance National Qualifier Meet - May 2024
Amazing swimming from our fantastic team at this meet this weekend: a really high level meet they absolutely held their own, swimming out of their skins.  Sunday was a day of highs and lows with the older swimmers exhausted with many starting GCSEs this week, whilst simultaneously hitting the end of another long National Window.  Losing your spot in the window at any point is pretty brutal and we had a number of our high achieving swimmers in this situation this weekend, the last weekend of the window.

Whilst it’s painful now, know that you did the Club proud, so hold your head high and get ready to go again for the end of the season and into next year.  Your true success is not defined by 0.5 of a second on an arbitrary list; even though this period makes it feel like that.  Despite the disappointment (and these are for many swimmers across the country, not personal to us) there were some amazing swims, amazing teamwork and we (well some of us 😁) made some new friends from the Isle of Man @iomswimteam 💙💛💙💛

City of Liverpool National Qualifier - March 2024
We had a great Easter weekend with some of our National, Regional & County Development squad swimmers racing at the City of Liverpool National Qualifier. Thank you to everyone at City of Liverpool who made us really welcome and brought us drinks, sweets and smiles!

March Long Course meets in the window are always emotional affairs with swimmers grappling with Long Course vs Short Course times and performances. We used this meet for some great learning, trying to focus on the process and race strategies.

We had some brilliant results and we are very happy with the way the squad is developing 💪🏼💪🏼  Well done everyone 💙💛 here are the combined results from Day 1 & Day 2 🏊‍♂️🏊🏼‍♀️

What a fantastic weekend of racing we have had across the whole Club this weekend!

We won 51 medals at the Richmond Dales meet with PBs galore and lots of smiling faces!  It was a great long course experience for our youngest swimmers and it was the first long course meet since September for the rest of the squad.  We are always made so welcome at Richmond Dales.

Thank you to all our Officials who represented the Club for the two long days and to Team Managers Martin, Jennie, Nick, Catherine and Coach Tess who did a wonderful job of looking after the swimmers.

Tom R - English Schools Swimming Association Champs

Great weekend for Tom R representing the North West at the English Schools Swimming Association champs this weekend in Coventry.  Tom swam a great 100 Fly PB, a 10 second PB on the 200 IM, plus a solid 400 IM and, as ever, he made some fast contributions to the relays. Tom was clearly inspired by the occasion as he came back to training this evening and was smashing out some fast swimming.  Well done Tom.

Cheshire County Championships - Second Weekend Roundup
Cheshire County Championships - Second Weekend Roundup
Another fantastic weekend of racing at the Cheshire County Championships.

In 2022 we watched the 1500m at Counties and the swimmers asked me why we didn’t do 1500s and why we never really had anyone competing.  Fast forward 2 years of hard work and we had 8 swimmers competing at a high level in this event and giving some of the most gritty performances I’ve seen in the pool. They swam so hard I had to help a few of them out afterwards!!
